The Michael Anthony’s Pizza Mobilia Story
Welcome to the Michael Anthony’s Pizza Mobilia. I hope our services can find there way into your festival or event in the future. Michael Anthony’s is a family business ran by the real life Michael and Anthony Castronovo, two son’s of Anthony Michael Castronovo. What can we say... it’s an Italian thing.
Founded by Tony Sr, a thirty year successful businessman in the Toy and Hobby industry. He had a taste (literally) of the mobile pizza business in the mid-90’s while attending a festival with a former colleague who left the hobby business to run a mobile operation. Tony loved the freedom and the travel associated with this type of business, but with his manufacturing company and two young boys he knew that it could not be at that time.
He made mention to his friends in the business at the time that some day he would to get involved with the mobile restaurant business.
When Michael and Anthony finished formal schooling they came back to the hobby business where they grew up in as children. Younger son Mike told his father that despite how much he enjoyed making model boats, that owning Warehouse Hobbies was something he wasn’t really interested in. His older brother Anthony (Tony) agreed. Then Mike said , “I want to own a business where people need, not want”. When Tony senior proposed we start a mobile pizza company like their friends did prior, both boys were on board.
The name... well that was the easy part, but Tony senior had some conditions in the deal.
The mobile operation would represent itself as a profession operation and not a trailer with some random stickers. The unit had to resemble a pizzeria of the Italian turn of the century era.
The product was to be quality in taste and presentation, no cardboard with spaghetti sauce. Even at single day events where they could possibly never see that customer again that was not acceptable, after all their heritage would never permit it.
Rather than pizza slices that others so commonly provide, Michael Anthony’s was to define themselves with a personal pizza pie that offered the freshest taste made to order, with individual and personal attention.
Build this business with pride and dedication in a direction that could yield franchising in the future.
The boys agreed to the terms and all three began to learn the business by attending events and watching other similar businesses in action. They spent 6 months testing ingredients and cooking methods and settling for nothing but the finest in ingredients and overall taste. Oh, one more condition… all three were to attend food preparation classes and pass the National food prep and food safety course, and they did.
Shortly after they designed the food service trailer from the ground up and commissioned a company to build it. They sourced and purchased the best in cooking and preparation equipment. I once heard Tony senior ask an oven manufacture if their product was better than Pizza Hut and other national franchises. You see in his business, machinery and tools are a necessity to manufacture quality products and any time spent repairing them takes valuable time from manufacturing. He has the same attitude with Michael Anthony’s, and all the trailers are assembled with not one but two high speed high quality ovens.
Each trailer is 100% cover “wrapped” with quality vinyl material and look as good as their pizza’s taste.
In May of 2009 Michael Anthony’s put the first of their mobile pizza factories on the road with more slated in the years to come. At present time the operation travels through Florida attending single to four day shows. Our business is designed to handle large crowds 50,000+, but we will attend smaller venues of 5,000 or more.
